Percentile ranks show how a student’s score compares to peers in the same grade. A WCPM score in the 50th to 75th percentile means the student reads at a rate around the middle to the upper-middle of grade-level peers. That places them within the expected grade-level range; they’re not in the lower tail (significantly below) or the top tail (significantly above). The data is sufficient to determine where they stand. Remember that WCPM measures fluency—how fast and accurately words are read—not overall comprehension.
